Also, I would be running SABnzb, sickbeard, couchpotato etc on the Mac mini and if I was using alternative 2 and I wanted to fiddle with any of these I would have to do so in the TV room (which wife and kid may not be thrilled with) whereas if Mac mini was tucked away (in the study for example), I could work/tweak the Mac mini without disturbing those that may be watching TV.
